Job Title: Wildland Firefighter
Job Description:
The Wildland Firefighter is responsible for combating and suppressing wildfires, protecting natural resources, and ensuring public safety. This physically demanding role requires individuals with a strong commitment to environmental conservation and a deep understanding of wildland fire behavior and management practices. The Wildland Firefighter will work as part of a team under the supervision of a crew leader, while adhering to established safety protocols and regulations.
Responsibilities:
1. Respond promptly to wildland fire incidents and effectively carry out assigned firefighting duties.
2. Perform fire line construction, clearing, and maintenance using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
3. Operate and maintain firefighting equipment, vehicles, and tools, ensuring their readiness and functionality.
4. Participate in prescribed fire operations, including ignition, control, mop-up, and monitoring activities.
5. Conduct fire prevention activities such as fuel reduction, hazard assessment, and public education.
6. Assist in conducting fire investigations and reporting findings as required.
7. Execute fire suppression tactics, including fireline construction, water application, and use of fire retardants.
8. Perform fire behavior observations and communicate relevant information to the crew leader and team members.
9. Follow established safety guidelines and procedures to mitigate risks associated with wildland firefighting.
10. Coordinate with other agencies, organizations, and stakeholders involved in wildland fire management activities.
11. Maintain accurate records and complete necessary reports related to firefighting operations and incidents.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent education.
2. Physical fitness and stamina to perform arduous tasks in challenging environmental conditions.
3. Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
4. Knowledge of wildland fire behavior, fire ecology, and fire management techniques.
5. Proficiency in using and maintaining firefighting equipment, tools, and vehicles.
6. Ability to work effectively in a team, following instructions and collaborating with diverse individuals.
7. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
8. Strong communication skills to convey information clearly and accurately.
9. Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
10. Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and adherence to established firefighting standards.
11. Successful completion of relevant training courses, such as Basic Wildland Firefighter, S-130/S-190, or equivalent.
